About the Institute
The Centre for Agricultural Research in Suriname (CELOS) is
a foundation, established in 1967. Our Centre is linked with
the Anton de Kom University of Suriname (ADEK). We are
active in various areas of Agriculture and Forestry, which
can contribute to national development.
Objectives
Since expertise of various Agricultural and Forestry fields
exists within the staff of CELOS and the Faculty of
Technology of the ADEK University, these institutions are
able to adapt their programs to target many Agricultural and
Forestry sub-areas. At present emphasis is placed on finding
solutions for the Agricultural and Forestry sector through
the application of new technologies. Collaboration with
international recognized Institutions and Universities
aiming at similar objectives is a priority of CELOS.
This results in exchange of knowledge, technology transfer
and joint research efforts.
Scientists and research
associates from CELOS, the ADEK University and faculty
students conduct research in our laboratories, or at one of
our field sites:
- Phedra and Tijgerkreek
West (Agriculture);
- Kabo and Mapane
(Forestry) or;
- Central Suriname Nature
Reserve (Biodiversity).
