• To Develop in tissue culture protocol for existing and new plant collection
• To provide facilities for educational purposes for University students

Personnel
The laboratory has about 7 assistants. Research is mainly conducted by students from the faculty of technology of the Anton the Kom University of Suriname.

The Tissue culture department provides the facilities, knowledge and all chemicals needed for the experiments.

Crops that have been multiplied by the in vitro techniques are:
Poyo robusta (lakatan)
Ananas comosus spp. (local variety)
Carica papaja spp.
Xantosoma spp. (Taya)
Ananas comosus (variety Monsera from Guyana)
Orchidaea spp. (local variety)

Recent research conducted by this department are the propagation of cassava,
and edible mushrooms.
