TEAM Project
CELOS is coordinating the Tropical Ecological Assessment and
Monitoring (TEAM) initiative in Suriname
www.teaminitiative.org, a 10-year-long research
project under auspices of the Center for Applied
Biodiversity Science (CABS), a division of the non-profit
biodiversity NGO Conservation International (CI).
| The
research is conducted in 1.6 million ha Central Suriname
Nature Reserve (CSNR), established in 17th June 1998 and
recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 29th November
2000. CELOS will coordinate the collection of several
biodiversity indicators on climate, soil, fauna and flora in
a joint effort with sister organizations from the Anton de
Kom University of Suriname (Lead Institution of the
research), viz. the National Herbarium, the National
Zoological Collection, and the faculty of Technological
Sciences. |

The basement is a
biological station in its first stage of
construction at Raleighvallen (4º44‛ N; 56º14‛ W),
25 m a.s.l., 2500 mm annual rainfall, in the
northern art of the reserve. (see pictures)
Mesophytic forest with Astrocaryum sciophilum as an
indicator species.
